On September 6th, 1535, Jacques Cartier made anchor his three ships the Big Ermine, the Small Ermine and the Émérillon, little on the West of the current quay(platform), in the North of Isle, in a small bay(berry) which kept(preserved) the name of Anchorage(Wetting) of the French people or Anchorage(Wetting); finding many hazel trees (hazel trees) there, he(it) named her Isle-aux-Coudres.

An ice canoe race reminiscent of the hard work performed by the postal workers who had to fight against the river, its current and its ice,to go pick up the mail at the Saint-Joseph-de-la-Rive wharf. The only race on the Quebec circuit to occur in salt water and it is now part of the International Ice Canoe Circuit.
